Master Bath Reno

Bathroom Artwork

This is the painting that I bought in 2014 at the High Point furniture market, as inspiration for my bathroom someday…

I’ve shown you the bedroom and closet redo. Now I wanted to show you the bathroom I waited 28 years for… I didn’t want to put it on the renovation list because no one ever saw it but us. It was like a dirty little secret. 😬

I talked about self-care yesterday. I think maybe it was a sign of how bad I am at that, that I waited for so long to spend the time and money on something that only Chip and I ever see. (Poor Chip get’s tangled up in my lack of self-compassion sometimes.) He was really tired of going to beautiful hotels on business trips, and coming home to our horror show of a master bathroom/closet.

So watch below, as my contractor (my brother) and myself (with help from my very talented friend - you know who you are…) transformed that little corner of our world. And as I have said before, Chip let me do what I wanted.

So let’s start the $%&^$# show! Oh wait…i apologize for the crummy pictures - these were taken before any blog possibility was known…

Yes. here it is. the only thing we kept, was the window, with the custom shutters i had made for all the bathrooms years ago.

The day before demo. i had taken off the knobs.

And here you have the original harvest gold situation….and the 1983 peeling wallpaper…

The original wallpaper from 1969 was metallic gold and just so special….

Let’s move on, shall we?

we had a little hiccup in the beginning. ok a big one.

When they took the subfloor up, the original cast iron pipes were failing, and that’s what that tiny little spot on the kitchen ceiling was. We’d been wondering about that…

SURPRISE!

THEY HAD TO CUT HOLES IN THE KITCHEN CEILING AND THE EXTERIOR SIDING to get to the situation. Then the kitchen ceiling had to be painted and siding had to be replaced and painted…before we did much in the bathroom…good times…

Bathroom Renovation

OK now they’ve got the subfloor replaced..

Bathroom Renovation

Here they’ve got the drywall redone, the shower space framed, and the floor is ready for tile…

Master Bath Renovation

the tile is up and ready to go…

We came into the bedroom 18” and came into the closet 12” to make the bathroom as big as possible, in the existing footprint.

White Maura Slab

White maura marble slab for vanity top and tops and step into shower

Marble Used

This was used for shower walls - Large Carrera marble - 12 x 24’s

Shower Floor Tile

Shower floor tile - sorry for the bad picture - this came from floor & decor locally - carrara hexagonal

Nova Lynx Tile

floor tile - came from tile Bar - Nova Lynx Hexagonal - i have since seen similar at home depot

Now we’re getting somewhere…

Master Bath Renovation

cutting space for vanity cabinet…

Tile Bar Nova Lynx Tile

shower tile and floor tile have been laid…

Master Bath Renovation

Vanity in place, marble top cut and placed, working on top cabinet…

Hair Styling Garage

They added an outlet in the top cabinet for hair appliances, to stay plugged in

Carreras Marble Shower

Shower is almost plumbed and tile is done

The shower enclosure is done, with door and half wall to give toilet a bit of privacy.

I used these hooks to hang towels on the shower, there is so little wall space in the bath.

Hexagonal Shower Knob

I picked a more dainty knob, instead of usual long handle, since the bath is small.

The Reveal

Mirrors and lighting are up, wallpaper and painting is done. I debated over the wallpaper with the floor tile, but in the end I went with it, because they are just different enough in scale, and more is more for me. I feel like there’s enough white to give a breather to the space.

How it lives today…
